Biography

Expertise in Experiences

Séamus Byrne is a Product Leader, Business Strategist and Experience Designer with over 20 years creating world-class experiences for product teams and their customers.

His client portfolio transcends sector or discipline and scales from start-ups to multinational enterprises. Examples include: AIB, AXA Invest, Fáilte Ireland, Kerry Foods, Intel, Irish Life, Logitech, SuperValu, The Irish Times, Tourism Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, and UC Berkeley.

Business Director

Séamus is a specialist in business innovation. He is Co-founder and Director of UX at Graphic Mint, a design consultancy providing:

  • User Interface (UI) Design,
  • User Experience (UX) Design,
  • Service Design, and
  • Design Operations.

Over the last decade he initiated the following programmes based on market demand:

  • UsabilityTesting.ie: a state-of-the-art user research lab based in Dublin city centre providing expert usability testing and user research services to businesses across Ireland.
  • Participants.ie: a participant recruiting service.
  • ProductStrategy.ie: an “in-house” consultation service providing workshop facilitation and structured strategic activities to diagnose and overcome challenges relating to business, products and services. 

Séamus collaborates with, and advises, C-level and senior management. He applies what he has learned from running a consultancy including business strategy, business development, product development, marketing, retention, HR, IT and operations.

Séamus has executive experience serving the Interaction Design Association’s Board, co-chairing Interaction12 Conference and co-founding the UX Ireland conference.

Experience Designer

Séamus is a visual thinker and storyteller. He started his career as an interactive designer, and has an MA in Multimedia from Cal State East Bay. He transitioned into interaction design while working at UC Berkeley and never looked back. Throughout this time he has a passion for visual design, web development and digital media.

These days Séamus oversees the creative process on enterprise product development projects. He supports multi-disciplinary teams with ideation, critiques, iteration, resolution and delivery. He values design as a game-changer toward creating marvellous product and service experiences.

Product Strategist

Séamus consults with enterprise business teams to hone their vision and product strategy before directing research and design teams to create and deliver meaningful and useful products. He solves business and product problems via design, research and strategic solutions.

He has an intuitive awareness of the outside-in and uses empathy and user-centred-design to lead ongoing research and validation initiatives. Séamus spends a significant amount of time facilitating business and customer stakeholder workshops where he applies his experience via activities to lead teams towards successful outcomes.

Coach and Mentor

Séámus is a proactive thought leader in Design education helping draft and teach syllabi for User Experience Design in the School of Business, National College of Ireland and the MA Interaction Design, IT Carlow. He has mentored over 50 junior designers and researchers through the internship and apprentice programmes at Graphic Mint.

In his spare time he likes to sing and walk his dog (sometimes at the same time).
